Thanks for being my guest today, Don. Please tell us, what type of crime fiction do you write and why?
I primarily write private detective fiction. It is my favorite to read.
Tell us about the concept behind your books. How did you get the idea?
I travel a great deal and began binge watching shows like Columbo and the Rockford Files. I wanted to take that type of show with a quirky detective and supporting characters and contemporize it.
Tell us about your Detective / main character.
My detective is a former police officer that had an unspeakable tragedy happen in his personal and professional life. It caused him to leave his hometown, Syracuse, New York and head south to Florida where he became a private detective that is haunted by his past.
Who would you cast to play the characters in a movie?
My main character, Frank Rozzani, is a dark haired, blue-eyed man in his thirties. I think Bradley Cooper would be great. His sidekick, Jonesy, is a surfer/lawyer/hacker. Matthew McConaughey comes to mind.
Do you include humour?
I definitely like to infuse my stories with comic relief. Crime stories can be very tense. I like to offset the grittiness with a bit of humor between the characters in their situations and dialog.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the fifth book in my Frank Rozzani detective series.
Who would you like to invite for dinner?
If I am able to choose deceased people, it would be classic comedians. I’d love to have Groucho Marx, George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Robin Williams.
Who are your favourite independent writers?
Hugh Howey, Mark Dawson, and Andy Weir come to mind. They are the standard for what we can become.
Who are your favourite authors?
Stephen King and Jonathan Kellerman.
What is your favourite book?
My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird. I’ve read it three times at different ages and have taken a different message from it each time.

Shall I count the ways that I love this interview? Crime detective, Matthew McConaughey, and “To Kill a Mockingbird!” ( The last two, of course, being affiliated with the South, do it for me completely!) Always such a great time on your blog, Christoph; here’s to Don Massenzio, whom I wish many sales and a future television series. BTW, Christoph: I’ve been watching the series Shetland. Have you seen it?
writerchristophfischer said:
No, the series is news to me. I will have alook for it. I don’t watch enough TV. There are so many great shows I don’t make the time for.
Thanks for the tip!
Have a great Monday!

Thank you Claire. I’m a transplant to the South, but would never move back to the North.

I understand completely! I’m a Southerner living in California. You can only imagine how strange this is, for Southerners see the world through their Southerness!
