About

Christoph Fischer is an Independent writer from Germany, based in the UK.

Christoph Fischer was born in Germany, near the Austrian border, as the son of a Sudeten-German father and a Bavarian mother. Not a full local in the eyes and ears of his peers he developed an ambiguous sense of belonging and home in Bavaria. He moved to Hamburg in pursuit of his studies and to lead a life of literary indulgence. After a few years he moved on to the UK where he now lives in a small town in West Wales.  He and his partner have three Labradoodles to complete their family.

Christoph worked for the British Film Institute, in Libraries, Museums and for an airline. ‘The Luck of The Weissensteiners’ was published in November 2012; ‘Sebastian’ in May 2013 and ‘The Black Eagle Inn’ in October 2013 – which completes his ‘Three Nations Trilogy’. “Time to Let Go”, his first contemporary work was published in May 2014, and “Conditions”, another contemporary novel, in October 2014. His medical thriller “The Healer” was released in January 2015, his latest historical novel “In Search of a Revolution” in March 2015 and his latest thriller “The Gamblers” in June 2015.

He has written several other novels which are in the later stages of editing and finalisation.

  1. Hi ,Thank you for following my blog, also best wishes with yours as well 🙂

  2. Hallo Christoph,
Thank you for your visit and for the follow, I just returned the favour 🙂 Viele Grüße, Katharina

  3. What part of Germany? my son went to Univ of Goettingen and has lived in Berlin.

    • The very South. A small town called Rosenheim, near the Austrian border south of Munich. Think Heidi and Sound of Musik. I never got to see Goettingen. I lived in Hamburg and then moved away. Bavarians don’t see much of the rest of Germany. My sister lived in Berlin for a while so I know it a little.
What did your son study? Did he like it in Germany?

  4. He loves Germany. (Proud mom here, you’ll be sorry you asked!!!) He’s got a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures from Yale(last year) His dissertation was on Goethe, Stifter, and Benjamin. He teaches at Yale now and spent the last few years teaching a Yale summer program in Berlin. I visited him when he was in Goettingen and it was beautiful. I’ll ask him if he ever visited Rosenheim. He’s a big hiker so it’s possible.

  5. Thank you for liking and following me! I hope you will be kept interested – sometimes I get it right. I am going to follow you as well because this all looks so good!

  6. Well…I didn’t have anything to compare it to since that’s really the only place I’ve ever been in Germany. I loved the super old buildings and the bakery and we did a LOT of walking which I love but I think if my son didn’t speak fluent German, it would not have been much fun. It’s not so touristy, which I really enjoyed, but the people–not so friendly! Oh, and we went to Goslar in the snow (Feb) and it was so storybook beautiful–that was fun– …and went to a museum in Goettingen which was sad and scary at the same time as we’re Jewish. Now that you asked, I did have an unsettling experience at a flea market in Goettingen–someone selling Nazi Gestapo stuff. The seller and I were going to get in a fight but my son made me leave before anything got out of control.

    • The shalom on your blog gave it away 😉
My Jewish friend told me a similar story when she went to visit Berlin, she said she could not leave soon enough. She never elaborated on it much but she is not very sensitive so it had to have been something.
How did your son find it to be Jewish in Germany, if you don’t mind me asking.

  7. I don’t believe he’s ever had a bad experience, he looks very much like a student, and his German accent is so good, I think that’s helped. He pretty much just stays in academic circles. I’ll ask him if he’s ever encountered any negative reactions other than when we were together.

    • In my 23 years in Germany I never heard a bad word about the Jews, only about foreigners and immigrants which I trust is a phenomenon not specific to Germany – sadly (?)
I lived under the impression that my generation was truly cured of anti-semitism but not of all intolerance and prejudice. I am glad your son is/was enjoying his life there

  8. it is a pleasure to connect with a writer ! good luck in you art !

Hi Christoph. Thank you for liking my poem “Soul Mate” and for the follow. Are you the owner of the Labradoodle puppies that I saw pictures of on another blog site?

    • Hello, yes I am the lucky ‘owner’ of the puppies, the mother may claim to own them herself. Six gorgeous little ones. Feels like such a blessing 🙂
      Do you have dogs yourself?

      • feelingjoy said:

At the moment I do not have pets. When I was raising my children we had a Golden Retriever for 13 years and a calico cat. The cat is with my daughter. I hope to have a dog and cat again in the near future. As of now I’m enjoying watching the birds drink water from my bird bath that’s next to a window that I look out daily. Blessings to you and the beautiful mother of the six gorgeous pups!

  10. Thanks for the follow over on my blog. I look forward to gettng to know you here on WordPress.

  12. Being a history teacher I had little respect for the historical novel until I read Jack Whyte’s Camulod Chronicles, a series about post Roman Britain. The research he does is profound and instead of facts I felt transported into that particular time and felt an attachment to the characters as every day living of long ago is revealed and you can’t find that in history books. Thanks visit my blog, many authors and poets visit me. Good luck on book. I used to live with a colony of Czech people – best apple strudel in world.

  14. Hello Christoph
Thanks for the “like” on our post “Why we travel” and for following our blog. I hope you enjoy our many ramblings, both inner and outer. I’ve been told ours is a spiritual blog disguised as a travel blog. Perhaps it’s true. It was the spiritual path that lead to the travelling.
    Blessings

  15. Hi Christoph. I like your blog, and I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award. No obligation. 🙂 http://marnycopal.wordpress.com/2013/05/19/good-day-sunshine/

  16. Good to find another author of historical fiction and one with connections to Europe! I did a survey of historical fiction readers last year and plan to do another one this year. Perhaps you’d be willing to post a URL when the survey goes live? I’d love to hear from you maryktod [at] gmail [dot] com.

  17. Hey there! I just wanted to say thanks for the like and following my blog! I’ll have to check out your website 🙂

  18. Thank you for following my blog Christoph, and I’m looking forward to following you. I lived in Germany for two years aged 11-12; my father was stationed there in the army. We lived in Sennelager near Paderborn, North West Phalia. I loved it there.

  19. Christoph, I wouild like to take a moment to thank you for visiting my blog, and “liking” my post about me. A dear friend and follow blogger gave a wonderful shout out about me, and I am sure your visit is a direct result of that shout out. Hopefully over time you will have other opportunities to visit my blog and find posts to your liking. Please take care, Bill, and thanks again for visiting.

  20. I have been following your blog for some time now. Paulette has re-blogged one of your posts I guess and drew my attention your way by doing so. Yesterday’s like was just one of many visits. All the best and see you soon!

  21. I see we both love history…different eras perhaps, but its all good. I see you have more than one book on the market. I am in the process of abandoning some projects (temporarily) to pick up another that I hope to publish this year. Good luck to you with yours. I’ll be checking back. My reading list grows by leaps and bounds, but it doesn’t stop me from picking up new and interesting reads every day 🙂

  22. A pleasure to meet you, especially this wonderful time of year. Hopefully we will have each other’s posts to enjoy throughout the new year.

Greeting from just across the Severn Bridge

      Christoph

      • I can’t believe just how many of my back catalogue of posts you’re reading Christoph. You’ll die of terminal boredom if you go on like this. If you hit the dark patch in my life during my wife’s illness and death I hope you won’t find my work too flippant or unfeeling. Humour was the only way I could cope with the situation.
        All my best to you.

  28. Suffered depression et al most of my life. It is remarkable how those of us have suffered still retain that sense of humor.

  29. My admiration for your talent and inspiration! You have a beautiful written voice and a lovely way of communicating and expressing your personality trough your artistic work. Thank you for following my blog, I’m truly honored!
Wish you joy, inner strength and the will to make your dreams come true! I know one day I’ll see your name on the cover of a bestseller. Keep up with the great work!
    Carissa

  30. You have complimented me by turning a few pages on my philipparees blog which is more ‘all and sundry’ than the other http://involution-odyssey.com/blogscribe/ Not sure which would appeal more. I need to integrate them but not sure how to do it so thought I would just tell you both exist in tandem. I really admire the clean interface of your design and clarity of expression, which makes life very easy. I have so much to learn!

  31. Greetings to you, and thanks for the follow, I look forward to reading your posts.

  32. How nice to meet you Christopher. Thank you for following my blog. I hope you find some books you like! The Healer looks really interested – I am always interested in really good medical thrillers. And I Love your cover.

  63. Hi Christoph. Thank you for following my art blog and I look forward to seeing your posts. Do you have any favorite authors who inspire your thrillers/literature?

    • Hello and welcome.
I have a lot of favourite authors. Lionel Shriver and Christos Tsiolkas are two of them. My inspiration comes mainly from real life, though, and sudden ideas I get for stories.
      I also love Kafka 😉

  66. Hi Christoph, Good to meet you. Haven’t yet had the pleasure of reading any of your work. But I will! Husband (Jewish) served in the British Army in 1946 and was stationed in Germany and Austria,.Although a sensitive time…he met many kind German people (unlike distant relatives living in Poland) and recently wrote a memoir in long-hand, aged 87 (which I edited & typed: ‘A Life Worth Living’ now published on Amazon & Kindle).I was an evacuee in Wales (am half Welsh) & wrote a memoir ‘My Gentle War.’ about my experiences then. Always good to interact with fellow writers. Best wishes. Joy Lennick

  67. Christoph, all of your books sound so intriguing… I’ve been meaning to try one of your books for ages… I couldn’t decide which one to try first, so I’ve been on Amazon reading through synopses and inside looks… I finally decided on Ludwika. 😀
