D.T.A. Davies has written a heart-warming and inspiring tale of the strength of the human spirit. In “All for Freedom” he retells the story of his several esacpes from prisoner of war camps and his time in captivity and flight during World War 2. From Crete, to Austria, Yugoslavia and Italy, he gives amazing insight not only into the living conditions as prisoner, but also about the thought processes behind his admirable attitude in view of adversity and cruelty.
there are great anecdotes and much food for thought in this work.
Told with unpretentious prose as you’d expect him to tell it to you in a pub in Wales or at a family dinner, this is very engaging and moving.
You can meet the author at the Llandeilo Lit Fest on Sunday 30th April
at 2pm at the Horeb Chapel, Cawdor Hotel
Local WW2 veteran D T Davies will be the center of one of our Welsh language events and will be interviewed by his co-author Ioan Wyn Evans about their book “Dianc I Ryddid” / “All for Freedom”
DTA Davies lives in Dryslwyn, Carmarthenshire. He witnessed Nazi atrocities at first hand. Serving with the Royal Artillery, he was originally captured at the Battle of Crete at the end of May 1941. He spent three years as a prisoner of war, in Austria, then Hungary and finally at the barbaric concentration camp of Zemun, near Belgrade. He was awarded the Military Medal for his wartime service. He is a well-known and active member of his local community, as a member of Carmarthenshire County Council (1970-74 & 1996-2003), and Dyfed County Council (1974-1996). During his period in local government, he was chairman of both Dyfed between 1981-2 and Carmarthenshire 1995-97. His autobiography Dianc i Ryddid was published by Gomer Press in 2015 and the English adaptation, All for Freedom: A True Story of Escape from the Nazis in 2016.
Ioan Wyn Evans has over 20 years experience as a journalist, working mostly with BBC Wales’ news and current affairs department. He has covered many domestic and international stories and produced a programme about DT Davies’ experiences during WW2 before writing two books with the former POW.
