Today I have something very special: “Conflicted Hearts – A Daughter’s Quest for Solace from Emotional Guilt!
Conflicted Heart is an emotional and amazing read. It is a few years old and a sequel is in the making but that doesn’t make it any less of a worthy read. We’ve heard about motherlove and the best they can do. Now let’s hear from someone who tells what happens when it doesn’t work so well.
The author writes with raw honesty about her tough childhood and her personal journey. Cruelty and abuse don’t have to be physical. This little girl became a victim of her parent’s war with each other.
It isn’t all doom and gloom, though. The author writes with humour at times and there are also some happy memories included, all of which have helped the writer to evolve as a person and draw a line under her past. Accepting hard truths and moving on is hard and I am impressed how thoughtful and balanced this memoir is.
There is warmth, humour and much entertainment to be had as well. The author had an interesting childhood and career and a beautiful writing style. Honest and refreshing, despite the difficult subject. A great achievement.
SYNOPSIS: Somehow I believed it was my obligation to try to do the right thing by her because she had given birth to me.
Burdened with constant worry for her father and the guilt caused by her mother’s narcissism, D.G. Kaye had a short childhood. When she moved away from home at age eighteen, she began to grow into herself, overcoming her lack of guidance and her insecurities. Her life experiences became her teachers, and she learned from the mistakes and choices she made along the way, plagued by the guilt she carried for her mother.

About the author
D.G. Kaye is a Canadian nonfiction/memoir author. She was born, raised, and resides in Toronto, Canada. Kaye writes about her life experiences, matters of the heart and women’s issues.
At a young age, D.G. began keeping journals to take notes about her turbulent childhood while growing up as an emotionally neglected child. Tormented with guilt, as she grew older, D.G. was conflicted with the question of whether or not she was to remain obligated to being a faithful daughter, in debt to her narcissistic mother for giving birth to her. Her first book, Conflicted Hearts is a memoir, written about her journey to seek solace from living with guilt.
D.G.’s writing relates to her experiences in life, and she shares her lessons and ideas she acquired along the way. Kaye’s second book, Meno-What? A memoir, it was written based on her passage through menopause. In that book, she shares her humor and wisdom on what women can expect at that time, adding some of her helpful hints for relief.
D.G.’s newest book, Words We Carry focuses around women’s self-esteem issues. She talks about how and why the issues evolve, how she recognized her own issues, and how she overcame her insecurities.
Kaye writes for the woman of all ages. Her writing is easily relatable and her insights about the complexities of being a woman are expressed in her writing.

A lovely insight to Debby’s thoughts on writing Conflicted Hearts, Cjhristoph. I was moved to tears when I read it. Maybe it was a little too close to home so I knew how she must have felt s a child. Going over now to buy Words We Carry. Thanks both .jx
Thanks Judith. ❤
Thank you so much Judith. I’m touched! Sorry if I made you cry, then perhaps you will need much more kleenex for the sequel this fall. ❤
So glad to see this review!

Another fantastic review for D.G. Kaye.. Debby Gies book Conflicted Hearts, this time from Christoph Fischer.. terrific.
Thanks Sally ❤
Thank you my sweet friend. ❤
What a marvelous review, Christoph. Yes, anything that speaks negatively of a “mother” is a difficult subject, because people immediately jump to the defense of a mother they didn’t even know. In doing so, they enable abuse.
Huge hugs to you for this review, and to Debby for her book. Sharing everywhere. ❤ 🙂 ⭐
Thanks Teagan ❤
