Not often taken by time-slip / travel novels this book had me after a few pages. The main character and her voice felt close and familiar quickly, her perception of the new surrounding of post Civil War Chattanooga, Tennessee impressed me deeply.
Her modern perspective of a time without cars and big cities is very well portrayed and realistic, making me imagine what it would feel like for me, too.
The historical value of the novel is not to be dismissed either. Not familiar with this particular region and period I learned a lot, while enjoying the action and romance parts very much, too.
Great suspense and very engaging writing make this a real contender. Quite impressive and highly recommended.

Secrets from a Dangerous Time begins 10 years after the Chickamauga Battle, Casey King is found in the mud of north Georgia, uncertain how she got there. Dr. Garrett Cleighton finds her and promises to get her back home as soon as he can. Garrett owns a traveling medicine show and offers Casey a role, if she will change her name to Maggie Marie for his show. The chemistry between Garrett and Maggie Marie sizzles. The pair leaves for Chattanooga to meet the other members of the troupe, only to clash with a group of drunken renegades. “Trust no one,” Garrett tells Casey. This is historical fiction romance and adventure from the first page. Wonder what Casey will do in story 2–panic or decide survival is best? Well written and wildly entertaining.

Secrets from a Dangerous Time is a fast paced start to a new series by Hunter S. Jones. The chemistry between Casey King and Dr. Garrett Cleighton transcends time. It’s obvious that the author has done her homework, because the historical detail is impressive. I love that this story is set in the South following the Civil War. ***I must note, however that I am most confused why it’s listed in the Confederacy category*** :/ ???

If you are looking for a steamy Victorian Romance with a hot, contemporary vibe of adventure and suspense, then this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!, 20 Sept. 2015
I’ve never read a story quite like this one, and it completely blew me away! Modern day businesswoman Casey King visits Chickamauga Park in Georgia one October afternoon. A tumble hurls her into 1873 where she is found by tall, hunky Dr. Garrett Cleighton. “What I want to know, as a man, is why you aren’t wearing a corset and why your breasts are in some kind of harness.” He exhaled the smoke slowly and continued, “But, as a gentleman, I’d best not be asking about such things. Why don’t you explain to me what you do in Atlanta all day?” I loved the blend of contemporary with the South of the past. The historical elements are added in such a creative way. Anyone who loves romance, histfic, history or a good old fashioned American story will enjoy this. I look forward to story 2 in this series!
