“Hugo: A Quest for King Borin” by Tony Gilbert is a very enjoyable fun fantasy read aimed at 7 – 13 year olds. Written in quirky and very entertaining prose I found myself transported back to the times of my own childhood and adolescence and the types of books and stories I used to read then. I was loving every part of this book.

The main story is one of confusion and misunderstandings between Queen Ennet and King Borin. The evil character in this book, The Hooded one, attacks Queen Ennet, which forces her to send a spy to King Borin, while at the castle of King Borin a young knight is setting out on a mission to her realm.

The book features trolls and goblins, great plotting, interesting parallel story lines, some fart jokes and many great one liners. I cannot see how children could possibly not enjoy this great and funny book
